7 Under 7: Spooky Asian Dramas

I don’t know how, but Halloween is less than a week away. If you’ve randomly lost time and had some unexpected things pull you away from watching fun stuff like me, fear not. There is still hope to get some spooky drama watching in, even if you don’t have much time to binge before the 31st. Here’s a list of seven dramas under seven episodes.

Goedam (Netflix)

While this one technically has eight episodes (already cheating!), the episodes are less than ten minutes long - most only end up being about seven minutes without the credits. This is a super easy binge, and a great way to spend roughly the same amount of time as one drama episode. Goedam is an anthology series where each episode focuses on a different Korean myth. There’s a mix of urban and historical, and all the episodes are the perfect amount of good and creepy.

Ju-On: Noroi no le (Netflix)

If you are a fan of The Grudge series, this Netflix original is probably going to be a safe bet for you. The series focuses on Odajima Yasuo , a paranormal investigator who connects a string of murders to the same house. This series is definitely for horror fans, as it’s a lot creepier and gorier than a lot of what I’m recommending, but I really enjoyed the entire series.

Betaal (Netflix)

I talked about this drama in my zombie post, but definitely worth repeating. Betaal is your answer for a shorter zombie drama. With only four episodes, this Indian drama was produced by Blumhouse, so if you are a fan maybe that will sway your pull to picking up this drama. Hired to displace tribal villagers, highway officials unearth an old curse and an army of British soldier-zombies.

Switched (Netflix)

Switched is a little more on the thriller side than it is horror, but still a solid choice for a bit of creepiness and mystery. A less popular girl steals a popular girl’s body to try to take control of her life. The drama actually deals a lot more with the consequences of that, while still keeping your guessing how it will all turn out. This drama was a surprise for me, and wasn’t expecting I would like it as much, but I think the two main female leads (Tomita Miu and Kiyohara Kaya) did a great job, and make the drama something extra.

The Stranded (Netflix)

Ok, so this is probably the least spooky thing on this list, but I wanted to at least pick something that had some mystery and a slight air of spookiness for those who need an option that still will be good for the season. I also just binged this one a couple of weeks ago and I enjoyed it. So it made the list. The Stranded is essential Thailand’s answer if you combined Lost with Lord of the Flies. A tsunami hits an island that houses an elite private boarding school killing all the inhabitants except for a select few from the recently graduated class. I think the length really helps this one because it keeps the pace pretty fast and it’s constantly leaving you guessing.

The Ghost Bride (Netflix)

The Ghost Bride is a great option for anyone who is into romcoms and wants something a bit spooky. A woman is offered the option to marry a wealthy family’s deceased son in exchange to clear her family’s debt. Things escalate and she uncovers a murder mystery that she has to help solve.

Ghoul (Netflix)

I’m ending the list with another Indian drama, but this one is tiny - three episodes tiny. An easy night of watching. Based on an Arab folklore monster.
