September Dramas

sepdramas.jpg

October is going to be a little crazy so I don’t know how much watching I’ll be doing. As it is my favorite time of the year I decided that if I was stuck inside might as well make the best of it. While I’m not participating in any events like Vlogtober, I will be doing a version of that. Between the blog and videos I will be posting almost every day. It’ll all be themed for the season. So if you are into horror, and all things creepy that focus on Asian entertainment (and probably some non-Asian things, to keep things wild), make sure to check back tomorrow! Now, onto the wrap up of last month’s watching.

I’ve been light with dramas this month. I’ve just not wanted to watch many dramas and have been watching more movies, and let’s be real, I’ve been mostly watching Buffy. I also have been watching a lot more concerts and pretty much all of the music shows/online concerts from the past month, and I think that really took the time that I would normally be watching dramas.

  • Denetsu no Okasan - 伝説のお母さん: You read that right, after what seems like 6 months I’ve finally finished the 8 episode, half hour a piece, drama. I believed, and it was achieved. In all honesty, I really did keep up with this one as subs happened. In the end, it was pretty terrible. Like, on a whole the plot and script were terrible but it was sort of fun and interesting but they did that thing where they redeemed characters that never showed any growth, they just magically got better. I wanted more from the lead and wanted her to be a strong character, but her only strength lied in her magic ability.

  • Aggrestuko Season 3 - アグレッシブ烈子: I will never connect more with a Sanrio character more than I do with this little red panda who spends her days relieving stress belting out metal at the karaoke bar. Season 3 is the darkest out of all of them, but the other seasons technically are dark in other ways. It’s on Netflix, super accessible. Please give it a try before casting it off as just a weird cartoon.

  • The Bridge Curse - 女鬼橋: This is a new Thai horror movie that Netflix just uploaded, so I figured I would try it out. It was an ok movie, I think if you are looking for a solid horror film that probably has some good scares and isn’t gory this is a good option.

  • Noroi the Curse - ノロイ: I don’t know if I’d ever claimed that I love found footage, but I certainly don’t hate it. This one was pretty good. It’s sloooow, so if you aren’t into that I can see not liking this one, but I really do like the slower burns especially in horror. The atmosphere is good, I think all the actors play the “realism” well, and it has some nice little jump scares that I think will get a lot of people (especially since it’s so slow, they come quietly).

  • Warning Do Not Play - 암전: If you like horror, and are still on a Seo Ye Ji high, this is probably going to be a great option for you. It’s a bit more gorier, but I generally liked it. There was a part where it got a little muddled and I think had some elements that were just sloppy editing/continuity (which is not the best to have in this type of movie) but all-in-all it had some good twists. I watched both this and Noroi on Shudder.

Oct 7 Tale of the Nine Tailed - 구미호뎐 // tvN (Viki)
I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a drama in a while. Really hoping it lives up to what I have built it up to in my head (not gonna lie, the posters have been scaring me, but the teasers keep bringing me in).

Oct 17 Search - 써치 // OCN (Viki)
I have purposely not looked a lot into this drama, just because I feel like watching anything will sway me and right now I’m super excited about this. It looks creepy, I love Krystal, and I’m really into this creature/monster thing that it has going on and it’s perfect for the season. Also, puppy!
