october wrapup

This month’s tbr/w is a bit late, as it’s been a rough start to the month and I haven’t really been present. Also this month I’m doing things a bit different. My schedule has been a lot less forgiving for being able to make time to watch all the dramas I want, and I’ve also had some mental periods that have effected my watching times. A lot of the time I’m a mood watcher, and that carries more into the making time to sit down and watch the thing. I’ve also just grown tired of talking about all the dramas I want to watch but then don’t. It just doesn’t seem effective and a good use of space in a post.

I’m not going to be sharing what I plan to watch or read in any sort of list but focus talking about the few things I’ve watched this past month and which out of the new lineup of dramas look interesting. I’m hoping that maybe this will help get out of my mental slump, and be a way to talk about the things that I have been watching and still talk a bit about the new dramas that are premiering this month that do look interesting.

Completed Dramas -

  • Bring It On, Ghost-싸우자귀신아: I ended up watching Bring it on, Ghost at the very beginning of October. It was a really great binge, I ended up watching it in only a few days. I hadn’t done a binge like that in a while, and the drama was a great one to do it for. Not only was it good for the Halloween season, it was also just a fun drama. Taec was great as well as Kim So Hyun. The story was perfectly in my wheelhouse and overall it was just a good drama.

  • Analog Trip-아날로그 트립: This was everything I expected it would be, and even better than I could have imagined. There really was no way I wasn’t going to like this, but it was a great addition to my watchlist. I needed something fun.

  • Criminologist Himura and Mystery Writer Arisugawa-臨床犯罪学者 火村英生の推理: I started this jdrama a very long time ago on one of my drunk too much wine nights, and hadn’t picked it up again. I currently am in my annual confetti cutting spree at work (thanks Christmas Carol!) and can actually pay attention to subtitled content and picked it back up again and finished it. I’m not going to lie to you, it wasn’t that great of a drama and only got semi-interesting the last episode, but it was good background filler to help pass the time while I cut.

Movies -

I also ended up watching three movies. I had grand dreams of maybe trying to do reviews on movies all month, but some dreams are to be left dreams and those three were the only ones I was able to watch.

  • Shutter- ชัตเตอร์ กดติดวิญญาณ: The first movie I watched was the Thai movie Shutter. Shutter is a 2004 horror movie where the two protagonists are involved in a hit and run that leaves the woman dead. Her ghost starts to haunt the pair through the use of a camera. Overall the movie was painfully boring to me, and it was actually really hard for me to get into it. I think it was on the verge of trying to be a more serious psychological thriller and just a normal jump scare movie. Either way, I don’t know that I’d recommend it, but since my only qualm is that it was boring to me, I guess it’s not that terrible?

  • The Promise-เพื่อน..ที่ระลึก: The second movie was also a Thai one called The Promise. Two high school girls make a suicide pact, and only one follows through with the deal, years later she comes for revenge. It was actually pretty enjoyable movie. It did what I enjoy in a horror movie where you a certain there is going to be a jump scare and it never happens. Jump scares don’t get me, so if that’s the bases of all your tension in the movie it starts to bore me, but this one played up other moments of tension pretty good. I honestly didn’t know where it was going to go in the end.

  • Oh My Ghosts-หอแต๋วแตก แหวกชิมิ: I guess October was Thai month, as the final movie I watched was Oh My Ghosts. Not to be confused by all the other Oh My Ghosts, this is a wacky and not at all good movie about Transvestites running a boarding school that’s haunted by ghosts. Not at all scary. I watched this for the podcast, so that’s the only reason it’s on my watched list. I would never pick this up any other way.

Currently Watching -

  • Extraordinary You/어쩌다 발견한 하루: Out of all the new dramas, the only one I’ve kept up with is Extraordinary You. I haven’t dropped Secret Boutique by any means, but it’s officially been moved to a “not right now” spot on my watchlist. Extraordinary You has captured my heart and have been enjoying it immensely. The only problem is that I can’t binge it and it’s been torture waiting every week for it.

New Dramas/Movies/Shows -

November 5 Tune in For Love-유열의 음악앨범 // Netflix

This movie was on my radar when it was first announced, and when I found out that Netflix was airing it I knew I was going to have to give it a chance.

November 8 Busted 2-범인은 바로 너! 2 // Netflix

Loved the first season, I’m sure I’m going to love this one.

November 17 Some Day or One day-想見你 // CTV (Viki)

Haven’t heard really much about this Taiwanese drama, but am interested enough to give it a chance.

November 20 Psychopath Diary-싸이코패스 다이어리 // tvN (Viki)

I’m semi on the fence about this drama. On one hand it looks like it might be something I would be super into, on the other hand it looks way too comedic for my liking. Either way, I will be checking it out.

November 27 People with Flaws-하자있는 인간들 // MBC (Kocowa?)

I really like Kim Seulgi and this drama looks like it might be a good romcom for me.
