Premiere: Mouse

Today the crime/thriller drama from tvN, Mouse, premiers!

I don’t know much about the drama purposefully to avoid any unintentional spoilers, but psychopaths? Serial killers? I’m so, so very into it. And it stars Lee Seung Gi! (Rest of the cast can be found here.) The previews have been creepy with that little kid, and even the press conference has got me excited:

Through their press conference today, tvN #Mouse says that the first ep is rated 19+ as there will be scene that might have disturbing parts to be as real as possible and to show the psychopath's true nature.

Mouse airs Wednesdays and Thursdays and it’s going to be a long one (20 episodes). Viki has it in their coming soon section, so hopefully it shows up subbed soon (it’s at 0% as off posting this and I’m dying).

Since the month had so many premiers, it was a slow month in progress. As of writing this, I haven’t even finished my plan of watching the first season of Voice. Hopefully, since some of the dramas are ending and some I just didn’t jive with, I’ll be able to catch up. I really want to finish all of those seasons before the 4th one comes out.

I didn’t keep up with news these past two weeks (I’m sorry, I made it up with lots of good songs) but wanted to bring attention to two good articles. Bandwagon Asia released two articles that highlight some of my favorite Korean indie groups. The first one is on Se So Neon, which just released their newest single, ‘Jayu’. The second about Drinking Boys and Girls Choir (who I highlighted last Music Highlights post). It’s a good article that interviews the pair about how they come up with the music, and how they focus on current events and issues.

*Yes I did post this earlier and am reposting now. Listen. I did that thing where it was 10 at night and thought that the post needed to go up and forgot to check if the dates had changed even though I knew that it probably would as I was in the middle of prepping for a Certified Noona’s episode about a HOLIDAY THAT I KNEW WOULD EFFECT THINGS. I’m stupid. But the drama does start today. Promise.

I usually tend to not look too much into dramas that are about to air. Partly because one of my magic tricks is that I can generally figure out if something is for me or not pretty easily and without much information (don’t try to question it, I have almost a perfect record with this), and I really hate spoilers for dramas that the spoilers are what make the drama exciting. Considering the types of dramas that fall into that category are my main genres, I just make it a habit to focus on avoiding things that could potentially be spoilers to save my viewing of it when it does come out.

I have no clue what Sisyphus is about. I know some things, but it kind of doesn’t make sense even knowing it.

What I do know is that it’s looking like it might end up being one of the top dramas this year with some great actors on board (Jo Seung Woo and Park Shin Hye). And a trifecta of my top genres. Sci-Fi. Fantasy. Mystery. It’s one of those instances that I don’t need to know if I should watch the first episodes are not, it’s that I will be even knowing nothing.

SXSW announced the lineup for their digital experience from March 16-20, which includes a personal favorite: Say Sue Me.
The kdrama, Hotel Del Luna, will be getting a musical in 2022. So I have until then to save up money to visit and watch.
The visual kei rock group, The GazettE, announced a new album for May. A digital single will be out in March.
Radwimps will be releasing an album dedicated to the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake disaster areas with profits going to the Japan Red Cross Society and local government.

+ Releases and Finds

-Yorushika released their mini-album, Creation. At this point I’m just mad at you if you haven’t attempted to listen to their great music yet.

-Dreamcatcher also released their mini-album, Road to Utopia, and while it’s not my favorite ‘Odd Eye’ has been growing on me more.

-I already talked about Leaves Black last post, but they put out an official music video for their song, ‘Farewell My Books’.

-DRC’s ‘Dot Dot Dot’ is really good.

-So I think it should be fairly obvious that while I like kpop, and have some kpop groups and some are my favorite artists of all time, I don’t actually connect with most new releases. It’s always a plus for me to find a new song or group to get into. Enter Purple Kiss with ‘Can We Talk Again’.

-In new to me world: I randomly got suggested this song by the rock band DANGGISIO and really really like them.

-Awesome City Club came out with a new song.

-Se So Neon can really do not a lot of wrong, especially with a lead singer like So Yoon.

-Some other songs I enjoyed include The Poles ‘Good Morning Sunshine’, Swan’s ‘Visualizer’, and CIX’s ‘Young’.

Christmas slowed down releases that weren’t Christmas-related, and not much news was released. I’ve also decided that making these bi-weekly seems like the more logical choice for this anyways. I also realized that I watched a lot of Asian movies this year - much more than years in the past - and it’s worth it to start mentioning them more. While the drama list is centered in dramas that came out in 2020, the movie list will be from the list of movies I watched in 2020.
