friday roundup: 12.27.19

Happy holidays! This is my last roundup of the year. Even though these Friday ones are new, it feels weird to know I’ve been doing some type of these posts for the longest on my blog.

dramas

You would think I would have used this break to watch dramas, but you would be wrong. I did watch some things, just not a lot of things. I’ve been trying to be better about trying to use breaks for other things and catch up on work/general chores and so I spent most of it doing things that I wouldn’t be able to do and read subtitles.

-Chocolate: I’m slowly chipping away at the drama. I’m still a bit behind, but I’ve been cat sitting and with only having access to Netflix, it’s been the perfect thing to throw on.

-Cinderella and the Four Knights: Again, cat sitting + Netflix. I’ve been wanting a more romcom type drama that I can get into (I’m picky about them, I’m sorry) and this one might be it? I just really wanted a drama that I can binge and not think about. While the first two episodes haven’t made me want to binge, I’m still intrigued enough to keep up with the drama.

-Running Man: With no plans this break, I decided to watch some Running Man. I had restarted the series a while ago, so I spent most of Christmas catching up on some of those old episodes. RM is always a go to show for me, it’s the first variety show that I really got into (and the first one I didn’t just watch cause SS501 or 2PM was on it) and it is always such a nice distraction.

-Home For Christmas: This is a cheat, as it is not at all Asian, but it was subtitled…so that counts, right? I watched the Netflix (series?) and actually really liked it. Again, I’m picky about romcoms (read: I don’t like most of them and none of what Netflix had been promoting) and the preview I saw seemed promising and it was. I really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend trying it, but don’t look up anything about it as the ending is not something you want to be spoiled on.

news

Taecyeon Interview
-This is a nice article with Taecyeon about his upcoming drama, and he talks about the future of 2PM. I’m really excited for his new drama (thanks Taec for consistently picking genres I like!) and have been in a ‘missing 2PM’ slump, so it was nice to see this.

-SBS Gayeo Daejun
I can’t begin to describe how awful I felt learning about the incident with Wendy (Red Velvet) during the rehearsals for SBS’ Gayeo Daejun. It is upsetting and completely avoidable. She is extremely lucky that she didn’t suffer even more damage (or death). Safety has to be #1, and the only way to make accidents like these less is to acknowledge the fault. If you don’t make companies realize that they were in the wrong and continue to let it slide, it will continue to be a problem. This is child-raising 101, I don’t understand why we have to keep hearing of these incidents happening again and again. It is very telling that SBS chose to say sorry to the fans before the one who suffered the most. It’s absolutely disgusting.

-ATEEZ
While I was really hoping for that lightstick (I have shelf I need to fill out and concert to attend in April that I need it for!), it is exciting that there will be more content from ATEEZ.

-MTV Top B-Side Kpop List
Not only did a DAY6 song end up on the list, but this is the first one with a Dreamcatcher song and has officially moved up to my top list of the year and the first I’ve seen to devote the entirety of their list on b-sides as opposed to just the hits.

music

In case you missed it the other day, I posted my top ten songs of 2019 in thread form over on twitter. It’s apparently now my new thing to do on Christmas day. I must say, this list is pretty fantastic. Check it out now, and come back here on Monday when I do my full in-depth music post.

videos

-‘Bad Girl For You’, the new Japanese single from EXID, finally has a full MV out (it’s so hard being a fan of Japanese music sometimes):

-Do I really need to tell you to go watch the ‘Psycho’ video?

-The musical The Man Who Laughs starring Kyuhyun (Super Junior) put out some teaser videos:

-This hasn’t been subbed yet, but if you need some Wonpil being adorable and singing to help you get through these holidays, I completely understand and here is the video for you:
